Body Tracings

In this series of artworks, iron, derived from rust, is used to trace sections of the artist’s body onto pieces of reclaimed cotton while engaging in physical therapy exercises. The fabric is dyed with plants collected locally, then assembled and stitched together.

The first piece in the series, titled "Companion," was created during an artist residency at Maison Métier d'Arts in Quebec City and at the Est-Nord-Est artist-run center in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec.

Companion, body tracing, iron from rust, reclaimed bedding, organic cotton thread, foraged goldenrod and sumac, alum, pieced and hand-stitched, 72 x 72 in. varying, 2021
